The irony in this acronym is deliberate. In a physical workout, a "rep" (repetition) is a single exertion of muscle—the fundamental building block of strength. You cannot build physical endurance by reading a manual about weightlifting; you must perform the repetitions. Similarly, cognitive and professional growth requires intellectual "reps."
